Business Owner's IT Tip
Avoiding the tricks of Spyware/Malware

There are three things your employees in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Isle of Wight, Richmond, or Hampton Roads need to know about Spyware/Malware so they do not unintentionally cost you lost man-hours and money:
1. Be careful where you click. If a message pops up saying your computer has Spyware, Trojans, or viruses, and the message is NOT from your virus scanning software, stop what you’re doing. Do NOT click in any of those windows. Close any legitimate programs you have running and perform a system restart.
2. Be smart about your email. Do not open any attachments or click on any Internet links you receive in an email from someone you do not know. Be especially cautious if the link ends in .EXE – this is a program that will be installed on your computer when you click on it,
3. Be wary of “free” virus scanners. You get what you pay for. Our IT company scanned a hard drive with one of the most popular “free” virus scanners and it found 68 viruses. We scanned the same hard drive with a well-known paid-for virus scanner and it found over 1,800 viruses. The top five virus scanners are relatively inexpensive now. For about $70 a year, you can protect up to three computers.
