News Release
Remote data backups are now easy, affordable to all small businesses
By Ken Hershberger, President - KC3 IT Services
Chesapeake, Virginia, Aug. 21, 2009 -- KC3 IT Services recently spent a fair amount of IT man-hours on a company in Virginia Beach which was very smart in many respects, but not very smart about backing up its information. When their company-wide network crashed, everyone thought their information was being backed-up.
I have never seen a business owner as irate, and as concerned about retrieving data from company hard drives so business could resume.
How any data-driven company in Hampton Roads, Virginia can take such a lackadaisical approach to its day-in and day-out critical information is mind boggling.
But as I talk to more and more business owners and set them up with remote data backups, it becomes clear they had perceived the entire process as too complicated or expensive.
They were wrong. Our IT company has a simple process for eliminating lost data and lost sleep from wondering what would happen if the building caught fire, a lightning strike fried the computers, or a virus corrupted everyone's hard drives?
Here's the time and cost involved in remote data backups:

As you can see, it's a lot easier and less expensive than most business owners think. And yet, I've found that a majority of businesses in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Isle of Wight do manual backups, periodic backups or no backups at all. I've also found that every week, one of these companies gets burned one way or another by not using remote backups.
For instance, I know of a small business president who spends close to three hours each night backing up the day's work to CD. When you do the math, that means the owner spends 60 hours a month backing up information. If he normally makes $100 per hour, that's $6,000 in lost revenue, or 60 hours of precious family time. That information could easily be backed up remotely in the early morning hours for about $100 per month -- $6,000 or 60 man-hours vs $100 and 0 man-hours.
Who we serve
Our IT consulting company provides remote backup services to many businesses throughout Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Isle of Wight, and Hampton Roads -- from law firms to doctor offices, construction companies to graphic designers. Whether it's a one-person or 200-person company, we ensure all their critical data is backed up remotely.
These folks enjoy knowing that all their day's work is being stored remotely during non-working hours. They don't have to spend one minute worrying or thinking about their data – that’s our job. Their information is securely stored on several servers in multiple, geographically-separate locations. If the unimaginable happens, they can be back in business within a day or two. I've taken years off business owners' lives with this service.
Why remote backups are preferred
Remote backups that are automated instead of relying of each individual employee to perform will improve the probability of data recovery when the inevitable system crash occurs.
Our IT firm recently did an analysis of a law firm in Virginia Beach and discovered that no data backup had occurred in over six months because everyone was either too busy to do it or did not know how to do it -- and no one was tracking it.
If you've been lucky enough to elude a major data lose, you should stop while you're ahead. Calculate the amount of data, time, and productivity such a crash would cost you. Now think about how simple and affordable it is to get your data backed up correctly.
Our goal is to have each of your employees, and you, focused on moving your company forward instead of worrying about lost data and time-consuming manual back-ups.
